The 2026 Forum of Russian Entertainment Industry Professionals assembled prominent players from the country's leisure and nightlife sectors. Running from September 21 to 26, it coincided with NATMALL, the biggest exhibition devoted to commercial property and entertainment infrastructure, staged on September 22. With industry leaders examining the future of a Russian entertainment sector that amounted to 2.78 trillion rubles in 2025, analysts are examining more closely the business structures behind some of Moscow's best-known nightclub brands.

Mikhail Danilov

Behind places such as Gipsy, Icon, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty is a tangled network of businesses tied to one of the entertainment industry's seasoned entrepreneurs in Russia. Mikhail Vladimirovich Danilov made his fortune in the tobacco business in the 1990s, scaling his company, Biznes-Tabak, into a retail chain with hundreds of points of sale and sales reaching $200 million by the mid-2000s. Once he sold the tobacco business, he moved into nightlife.

Via the holding company Sagrado Corp., the Danilov family built an extensive network of Moscow nightlife spots spanning more than two dozen sites. These have featured the legendary Rai, alongside Icon, Gipsy, Mutabor and Mix Afterparty. Mutabor garnered broad attention following a series of prominent events. The venue was afterwards re-branded as Arma and subsequently announced it was closing.

Speaking about the scale of his operations in an interview with Forbes Russia, Danilov highlighted Stadium Live as the company's flagship venue: "Stadium Live, which mainly hosts club-rock events, accommodates up to 7,500 people. I think this venue will be Moscow's number one this autumn both in terms of the quality of performers playing there and the number of concerts — we are planning at least 20 events per month." He also portrayed himself as fully absorbed in the music scene: "I truly love techno music, I go with real pleasure to our DJ imports at Insomnia, I am personally acquainted with many artists and DJs."

Most of the legal entities linked to the holding company are registered under the name of Danilov's daughter, Maria, and not Danilov himself. She is registered as the owner and director of a substantial share of the businesses. Market observers call the arrangement a standard model of family business succession: the founder remains the key strategic figure while the new generation gradually assumes legal ownership and day-to-day management of the nightclub assets.

As the Russian entertainment industry responds to changing consumer habits and regulatory changes, the forum delivered both a tribute to the sector's resilience and a reminder about the complex ownership structures that have shaped Moscow nightlife for decades.
